In Memory of the Present

April 2, 2011

For the first time since 2010, Logan Canyon was warm enough to climb comfortably. Now, I know people have been climbing up Logan Canyon a fair amount already this year, but today it was actually worth doing.

Blake climbed outside for the first time ever, Sam did a great job on lead, and I even led a route on gear. Trad climbing on limestone? Yeah, that’s right.

Climbing is a frivolous activity, but on a brilliant spring day like this, purpose emerges. The focus that comes from physical strain, combined with the company of good friends and immersion in the natural world transform a seemingly senseless pursuit in to something pure and beautiful. In conclusion: trad climbing on limestone is scary.
